01/14/19 Officer Involved Use of Force Incident (01/12/19 – Vineland Police Department) being investigated by CCPO

Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae announces:

On 1/12/19 approximately 4:23 pm, Vineland Police Department Officer #1 responded to a domestic incident in the parking lot of the Inspira Medical Center located in Vineland, New Jersey.  Officer #1 approached a male subject who was intoxicated.  Subject took a step toward a female and a security officer with clenched fists, at which time Officer #1 grabbed the subject and ultimately took him to the ground to restrain and handcuff him.  Subject taken into Inspira to be cleared medically for arrest.  Subject was examined and transported to Cooper Hospital for a head injury.  Subject last listed in critical condition as of early Sunday.  Subject is not being identified at this time to protect his health privacy.

Matter is being investigated by the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office under the 2006-05 Supplemental Law Enforcement Directive Regarding Uniform Statewide Procedures and Best Practices for Conducting Police Use of Force Investigations.
