Escaped prisoner, David Riley, 34, of Bridgeton City, N.J., was located and arrested on Saturday, August 11, in Baltimore, M.D.
Based on a cooperative investigation, investigators from the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit, Troop “A” Criminal Investigation Office, U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Task Force, U.S. Marshals Capitol Area Regional Task Force, and Maryland State Police determined that Riley fled New Jersey to Baltimore after escaping from the custody of officers from the Cumberland County Department of Corrections.
Riley was apprehended by U.S. Marshals at a bus terminal in the city. He was lodged in the Baltimore City detention center where he awaits extradition to New Jersey.
During the investigation, investigators determined that Riley’s father, David Carty, 58, of Bridgeton, N.J., drove him to Baltimore and bought him a bus ticket to Atlanta, G.A.
Troopers from the State Police Fugitive Unit and Troop “A” Criminal Investigation Office located and arrested Carty at a motel in Vineland. He was charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction of justice, and aiding another in an escape. He was lodged in Cumberland County Jail where he awaits a bail detention hearing.
Charges are mere accusations, and the suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty. ...
On Saturday, August 11, 2018 at approximately 1:33am, the Bridgeton Police Department were dispatched to 243 Walnut Street, Bridgeton, NJ for shots fired. Upon arrival, a female gunshot victim, identified as Erica S. McNair (age 44), was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the head. McNair was transported to Inspira Medical Center Vineland then ground transported to Cooper Medical Center. McNair later died from her injuries.
Preliminary investigation determined McNair was on the front porch of her residence at 243 Walnut Street with two subjects. Multiple gunshots were fired and two unknown subjects were seen fleeing the area. Numerous shell casings were recovered.
Bridgeton Police and CCPO Major Crimes detectives are investigating and have encountered difficulty obtaining cooperation from witnesses. Anyone with information may contact CCPO Detective James Riley at 856-982-6256.
