12/17/19 State v. Cleve Lewis (Homicide: 11/6/19; Millville)

On November 6, 2019, at approximately 11:27, p.m., investigators with the Millville Police Department and Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the Delsea Gardens Apartment Complex, Apartment 2K, on a report of a shooting.  Responding officers located Millville resident Derrick Harris, 31 years old, unresponsive on the floor of the apartment.  Derrick Harris was shot multiple times and ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

On November 7, 2019, investigators charged 41 year old Bridgeton City resident Gregory Coombs with the following offenses related to the murder of Derrick Harris:

  • Murder (1st degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1) and 2C:11-3a(2)
  • Conspiracy to Commit Murder (1st degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a/2C:11-3a(1)
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1)
  • Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose (2nd degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1)
  • Burglary (2nd degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2a(1)
  • Certain Person Not to Possess a Firearm (2nd degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b(1)

On November 7, 2019, investigators charged 32 year old Bridgeton City resident Deontray Gross with the following offenses related to the murder of Derrick Harris:

  • Murder (1st degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1) and 2C:11-3a(2)
  • Conspiracy to Commit Murder (1st degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a/2C:11-3a(1)

As a result of the ongoing investigation, a third defendant was charged with offenses related to the homicide of Derrick Harris today and taken into custody.  Specifically, Cleve Lewis, age 32, of First Ave., Bridgeton was charged with the following offenses:

  • Murder (1st degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3a(1) and 2C:11-3a(2)
  • Conspiracy to Commit Murder (1st degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a/2C:11-3a(1)
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (1st degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5j
  • Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose (2nd degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1)
  • Burglary (2nd degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2a(1)
  • Certain Person Not to Possess a Firearm (2nd degree), in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b(1)
