  • Bridgeton Knock Out Opiate Abuse Event
    6:00 PM-8:00 PM
    10-06-2017
118 E Commerce St, Bridgeton, NJ 08302, USA

118 E Commerce St, Bridgeton, NJ 08302, USA

In 2015, more than 33,000 people in the United States died of an opioid overdose.

As stunning and tragic as that figure is, the final death total for 2016 is expected to be even higher, and early data for 2017 indicates a continued rise in overdose deaths.

The opioid crisis has reached epidemic levels, and there is no time to waste in addressing it.

On October 6, the City of Bridgeton will be joining other organizations and volunteers throughout New Jersey to raise awareness about the epidemic impacting our county, state and nation as part the second annual Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day.

The statewide single-day initiative will mobilize citizens to distribute vital information about the potential for dependency on prescribed pain medicine and its link to heroin abuse rates in our state. While it’s becoming more difficult to ignore the tragedies associated with this epidemic, there are still many people who are unaware of the link between prescription opioids and heroin abuse.  A 2016 Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey study found that nearly one in three parents of New Jersey middle school students do not think there is a link between pain killers prescribed for things like sports injuries and wisdom tooth removal and the rising use of heroin in New Jersey. The study also found that less than 50 percent of parents of New Jersey Middle School students feel they are knowledgeable about heroin.

Look for information that is being distributed by our community supporters to every consumer that visits their venue:

    • Wendy’s
    • McDonald’s
    • Rite Aid
    • City of Bridgeton

Our Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day will conclude with the official lighting of candles and turning City Hall Annex “Purple” in honor of the 142 people per day that lose their lives to opioid misuse and supporting those in or attempting to access recovery.

It’s time to make sure every City of Bridgeton, Cumberland County and New Jersey resident is equipped with information that could help save lives. Please join us to help knock out opioid abuse on the steps of City Hall Annex on:

This October marks the second annual National Substance Abuse Prevention Month – an observance to highlight the vital role of substance abuse prevention in both individual and community health and to remember those who have lost their lives to substance abuse.

Join family and friends from all over the Delaware Valley in remembrance of loved ones we’ve lost to the grip of addiction.
The Regional Candlelight Vigil will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 6PM (doors open at 5:30pm) at Camden Waterfront Stadium, 401 North Delaware Ave., Camden, NJ.

The Regional Vigil will bring a sense of community to the battle of addiction. People in public service, public health and within the community will come together to share memories with people in recovery, still fighting the battle and to those left behind; while also being an outlet for friends and family to comfort each other and know they are not alone in their fight.

The Vigil will include speakers, service tables, grief counselors and a dessert reception.

Help raise awareness of the crisis we’re facing in our communities. Let’s erase the stigma and advocate for change.

To register your loved one to be honored at the vigil, fill out the form using the link below.
